Viewers to pay TV fee until end of 2012

According to the decision reached today by the parliamentary groups, the funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE will be covered by a so-called YLE tax from the beginning of 2013 onwards. When the new legislation enters into force, the current television fee system will be discontinued.

However, FICORA wants to remind that the obligation to pay the television fee continues normally in accordance with the current legislation until the end of 2012, and that television fee inspections are carried out as usual. The television fee obligation concerns everyone able to receive and watch television broadcasting, and the obligation is not bound to YLE programmes only.

Consumers are not expected to change or cancel their television fees on their own, but all changes to the fees will be made by FICORA. Invoicing of television fees continues until the end of 2012. FICORA will return any excess payments to customers who have selected a 12-month invoicing period, in which case part of their payment may extend to 2013. Customers are not requested to change the invoice sums on their own.

FICORA will notify of the television fee reform on its website as soon as more information on the matter becomes available.
