Suvi Lindén, the Minister of Communications, has decided that it is not possible to promote the reform relating to YLE's, the Finnish Broadcasting Company, governance model and financing. There is not enough parliamentary support to promote the reform.
Previously, the government parties had reached a unanimous view on the removal of the current television fee at the end of 2011. As of 2012, a household-specific public broadcasting fee would have been collected. FICORA would have continued to collect the fee.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications continues the preparatory work whose objective is to reform the YLE. The objective is to ensure that the drafters of the next government platform will be able to include the necessary definitions of policy in the next government platform.
Lindén maintains that the current television fee system is sufficiently effective and ensures the financing of the YLE.
The current TV fee system will remain unchanged until further notice.
