Television fee inspections in Southern Karelia and Southern Savonia
Television fees are being inspected in Southern Karelia and Southern Savonia. Regional inspections focus on households which have failed to submit a notification of taking a television set into use. During the first couple of days, the intensified inspections revealed 270 households which had neglected to pay their television fee.
Television fee inspectors have lists on the places of residence without a valid television notification. The lists have been compiled by comparing the resident information retrieved from the population information system with those households that have submitted a television notification. The Act on the State Television and Radio Fund enables this comparison.
In the campaign area, 27 000 households were sent a letter including a form to be used for submitting a television notification. According to the estimates, approximately half the households that have not submitted a television notification do have a television set in use.
Viewers must submit a television notification if they can receive television transmissions. If the obligation to submit a television notification is neglected, the sanction may rise to almost 600 euros. The television fee is EUR 244.90 per year, i.e. ca EUR 0.67 per day. The television fee can be paid in 6-month instalments (EUR 123.25), in 3-month instalments (EUR 62.35) or in monthly instalment (EUR 21.15). The obligation to pay the television fee still continues
The revision of the financing model for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE is included in the new government platform. The government intends to decide on the revision by the end of the year. At the moment, the obligation to pay the television fee continues normally and television fee inspections are carried out as usual.
